There is no dial and no digital controller. The 30W ceramic element heats to a single working temperature of around 350°C, which is the usable range for burning and for soldering alike. You choose the tip, not the temperature — which is why it suits someone starting out.

Safety — please read

The tip reaches around 350°C. It will burn skin instantly and will scorch any surface it is rested on.

  • Keep away from children. This is a tool, not a toy. The manufacturer states this explicitly. An older teenager can use it, but under direct adult supervision.
  • Work in a ventilated space. Burning timber and finishes produces smoke.
  • Wear a work glove and use the stand whenever you put the pen down.
  • Never use it on treated, painted or laminated timber — the fumes are hazardous.

Is this suitable for a child?
No. The tip runs at around 350°C and the manufacturer says to keep it away from children. It is a genuine tool. A supervised older teenager with an interest in craft or electronics can use it safely, but it is not a children's gift.
Can I adjust the temperature?
No, it runs at one working temperature. That keeps it simple for beginners; if you need variable heat for fine shading work, you want a dial-controlled station instead.
Can it solder as well as burn?

What surfaces work best?
