GEMLING Butterfly Gem Art
It finishes as something she will actually keep
Most children's craft ends in the recycling within a fortnight. This one ends on a wooden easel on a bedside table, and tends to stay there.
What makes it different
Five butterflies are built up in gems so they stand off the canvas rather than lying flat, set among printed flowers that are already there. The result catches the light from across a room.

The finished picture and the easel it stands on — both in the box.
Why it is easier than it looks
The background is already done
A full-coverage diamond painting means filling every square of a sheet, which is where most children stop. Here the flowers and leaves are printed on the canvas. A child only places gems on the butterflies and a handful of highlights.
What that changes
- The picture looks good from the very first butterfly, not only at the end
- It can be put down and picked up without looking half-abandoned
- The finished piece has depth, because the gemmed parts stand above the printed parts

It works as a shared project as easily as a solo one.
What is in the box
Everything, including somewhere to put it
To make it
- The printed canvas board, pre-glued beneath a protective film
- Around 29 compartments of gems — mixed rounds and shaped stones
- A gem pen, wax pad and tray
To display it
- A wooden easel, sized for a desk, shelf or bedside table
The easel is the part that matters more than it sounds. A craft kit without a way to show the result tends to end up in a drawer regardless of how well it turned out.

It becomes room decoration
Where it ends up

Where these usually end up.
It suits a bedroom shelf, a desk, a bedside table. There is no hanging hardware — it is made to stand, not to be mounted, which is worth knowing if you had a wall in mind.

Small parts, and a quiet activity rather than a quick one
Before you start
- Contains small gems. A choking hazard for under-3s — keep the tray out of a toddler's reach rather than relying on supervision.
- Work on a tray or cloth. Gems on carpet are not coming back.
- If the pen stops lifting gems, press the tip into the wax again.
- Peel the film back a section at a time, not all at once, or the exposed adhesive collects dust.
This is a sit-down activity with some detail in it. A child who wants a result in fifteen minutes will be happier with the keychain kit; a child who likes to settle into something will prefer this one.
As a gift
Ready to give, and honest about what it is
It arrives in its own printed box and needs no wrapping beyond a ribbon. It suits a birthday, Christmas, or the start of school holidays.

It arrives in its own printed box — no wrapping needed beyond a ribbon.
Honest limits
- The gems are plastic. The effect is sparkle, not jewellery — it looks exactly like the photographs.
- The maker does not publish the canvas dimensions, so neither do we. It is a desk-sized piece, not a wall-sized one.
- It makes one picture. Once it is finished, it is finished.
- Everything claimed here comes from the manufacturer's own packaging and photography.

Questions
What parents ask before buying.
How is this different from a normal diamond painting?
Two ways. The butterflies are built up with mixed gem shapes so they sit proud of the canvas rather than flat — that is what the 5D label means. And the background flowers are already printed, so a child only gems the parts that matter rather than filling an entire sheet.
What age suits it?
The maker markets it at 8–12. A six or seven-year-old will manage it with help; the butterflies have finer detail than a keychain kit and take longer to finish.
How long does it take?
Most children spread it over a few sittings rather than finishing in one. Five butterflies plus the gem flowers is a decent amount of placing, and that is rather the point — it is a quiet activity, not a quick one.
Is there glue?
No. The canvas comes pre-glued under a protective film. Peel back a section, pick up a gem with the wax-tipped pen, press it on. Nothing to apply and nothing to dry.
Can it actually be displayed afterwards?
That is what the wooden easel is for. It stands on a desk, a shelf or a bedside table. It is sized for a surface rather than a wall — there is no hanging hardware.
What if gems run out?
The kit supplies more than the design needs. If a particular colour runs short, loose craft gems in matching sizes are inexpensive and widely sold.
Is it safe for a younger sibling to be around?
Treat the gems as small parts. They are a choking hazard for under-3s, so keep the tray out of reach of toddlers rather than relying on supervision.
